Poop

How does Lily get her poop to travel up her back? Ever since we started feeding Lily fruits and veggies her poop has become ridiculous. I now have skills that I never would have imagined learning. I can get Lily's clothes off her when the diaper leeks while holding her arms and legs with one hand. I can run a bath and hold a poop covered baby at the same time. Just having the ability to hold a poop covered baby should be considered a skill!
Today she was sitting in her playpen and in less than 10 minutes had pooped enough for it to travel up her back and out of her diaper. She wasn't even laying down, she was sitting. How does poop travel like that?
She never seems to be bothered by it either. She is just happy to be covered in poop. Maybe because she likes the bath and if she poops everywhere she gets to take an extra bath that day.
Also tonight she was sitting in her highchair eating dinner just pooping and farting away. Didn't make her miss a beat with her dinner either. She was still sitting there opening her mouth ready for the next bite acting like those horrible noises weren't really coming out of her little body.
Today we gave her meat for the first time, I wonder what that is going to produce?

Kisses for the baby in the mirror

Lately, I guess it is because of the teething, Lily does this thing of eating my face. She opens her mouth real big and just jams into my cheeck or my chin. It cracks me up but that one tooth hurts. Well, the other day when we were playing with "the baby in the mirror" she tried to do the same thing to her reflection. I guess I incouraged her by laughing because now she does it every time she is close to the mirror.

6 months later

Half a year ago my little munchkin was one week old. I was healing from surgery and trying my damndest to get my stupid boobs to function properly so I could breastfeed. Looking back over the last six months I realize how much we all have grown. Lily has obviously put on some pounds and learned loads of new things. She was so skinny when we brought her home, now she has so much fat she has dimples on her knees and elbows.

Ross has grown in lots of ways too. He has learned that he has to be flexible sometimes with his rigid daily schedule, and how to deal with it when Lily screams. As a couple we have learned to make time to give the other one a break to keep each other sane. and Me, oh I have learned so much! I feel like Lily has been with us for ages, but six months is really such a short time. I have turned into a schedule person and I now have routines around the house. I never did that before and always laughed at Ross for it. I am far from being rigid, but the dishes are always done before bed now-a-days. I like mornings now even!
Six months ago I was vowing that I would fit into my pre-pregnancy clothes by Halloween. Well, Halloween came and went without me being remotely close to fitting into my old clothes. I was very optomistic about making time to go to the gym and running with Lily's jogging stroller. Well, jogging strollers are difficult on bumpy sidewalks and the broadwalk on the beach is under construction so I don't jog near as much as I had planned. And as far as the gym goes, I haven't joined one yet. I have lost some weight and am continuing to SLOWLY lose more, just not as quickly as I would have hoped. I finally got the nerve to try on what used to be my fat pants tonight. I am wearing them now and they are cutting into my stomach, but the are actually zipped up all the way!

Pre-prego 130, just before baby 167, 1 week after baby 155, now 139. Nine pounds doesn't sound like too much, but it looks like way more than that. Pre-prego I lifted weights 3x a week and now it has been a year since I steped foot into a gym, so I need to gain about 10 pounds of muscle and lose 19 pounds of fat to get back to normal. I'll post another picture of me and my "fat pants" in six more months and hopefully if all goes as planned they really will be fat pants again. This picure was taken about 3 months before pregnancy, I am using it as my goal for Lily's first birthday.

First Tooth

Lily's first tooth came through yesterday!!
I knew it was close so I kept feeling for it and although you can't really see it very well yet, you can definately feel it.
She also just finished her first week of daycare. She did fine and seemed to adjust well. She actually takes naps there. I was worried that she wouldn't sleep and she would drive the ladies crazy with her crankyness. But she hasn't. I don't know how they manage to get her to sleep because Ross and I are still having a hard time getting her to go to sleep. Once she is asleep she is fine, but the process of getting her to drift off is so complex. If all factors aren't exactly perfect she won't sleep.
When she is here with me she takes a longer nap than she does at daycare. At school she only sleeps for about half an hour and when she is here she will sleep for an hour or more. So, this week she has gotten really tired and really cranky at night. But getting her to sleep has been easier because of it.
We had a little bbq last night and I stayed up WAY too late so I am going to go to bed right now and it is only 8:30PM!!

Eyes

Lily had an injury. It was totally an accident but I am having Mommy guilt about not being able to prevent it. She was playing and stuck her finger in her eye. She screamed and screamed and it breaks my heart every time I look at her.

The other pic was taken two days before the eye injury. I don't know how long we have to wait to know for sure, but I think Lily got my eyes.

Catching up

I still feel behind from the holiday. I have so many thing I want to get done and just never seem to get caught up. Especially because now I have this weighing pressure to figure out about day care! I obviously have never had to find a day care before and didn't really plan to do so this soon, but I need to find somewhere for Lily to go staring on the 15th. It is only going to be for a month so I don't even know if daycares allow that or not. I really watch too much dateline because I am so scared of where to leave her. All I keep hearing in my head are those horror stories about child abusers and sexual predators. And I only have one week to find a suitable (also affordable) place that is willing to take a 6 month old for only one month! Please, if you have any advice please email me!
Anyway, I finally downloaded my videos and there are several cute ones. I have posted one of Lily showing off how well she sits, another of how she has been saying "da da da da da" all day long (you should see the pride on Ross's face!) and another of how Lily moves around even though she can't crawl yet. I always start her in the middle of the blanket and she scoots to the side because she likes to feel the carpet. Thank god we replaced that nasty carpet that was here when we moved in!
Sherah got Lily a blow-up bathtub for Christmas and it was just the perfect time! She had gotten to the point where she had really outgrown the little tub on the washing machine, but I didn't know what I was going to do next. She squirms and turns way too much for the big tub, so this was the perfect solution! Lily LOVES it. I have a hard time washing her face though because she wants to look at the water the entire time. I can get the soap on, but rinsing it off is a problem. I'm sure we will figure it out soon enough.

New Year

Each year I reflect back on the year past and make resolutions for the year to come. 2006 was a big year for me. I became a homeowner, business owner and most important, a mom. I put myself much further in debt, gained a bunch of weight, lost a little weight, had my first major surgery, and went to my first trade show. I learned that I enjoy mornings and fell in love with coffee.
In the coming year I plan to recover the money Bryan owes me, put in a pool, and get health insurance.

Lily learned how to smile, laugh, reach, hold up her own head, roll over, eat from a spoon, and sit up. In the coming year she plans to grow teeth, grow hair and gain a buch of weight. She also plans to learn how to stand, crawl, talk and walk.

I just love to watch her. She is so deliberate in her actions now. She watches thing with such intense curiosity. She actually does things on purpose now. For Christmas, she got a little piano thing that hooks on the side of her crib and somehow she squirms herself into position to push the buttons with her feet each morning. I have tried to catch her to see how she does it, but I wake up to the thing saying "hello baby" which is what it does when you first push on it. I sneak into the room to see if she is doing it on accident or on purpose and I have determined that it really is on purpose. She looks at it while it sings and when it stops she puts her foot up there and hits it again. So smart!!

David got her a soccer ball for Christmas and she loves it. It is kinda annoying to me though because she sits on the floor (yes, sits...she is so advanced!) and hits it so it rolls away from her. She cracks up laughing and then fusses until I roll it back to her. I have been trying to show her how to kick it, but I think that is a long time away.

Last day of the year

This picture is from my phone so excuse the poor quality. The weather was ok and we decided that Lily was finally big enough to get her feet in the water. She has been to the beach lots, but we have never gotten her in the water. She was a little scared and didn't like it, but doesn't it make for such a sweet picture?
